William Langley

William Corey Langley, Jr.
October 10, 1938 – January 15, 2025

William Corey Langley, Jr., 86, died on January 15, 2025, in Stamford, CT, where he lived for 59 years.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Langley, two adoring daughters Margaret (Mike) Woods-Milich and Pamela (Owen) Carragher, and five grandchildren who rejoiced in his endless amounts of wisdom and love: Jack Woods, Ryan Carragher, Megan Carragher, Gavin Woods, and William Carragher. He is also survived by his two brothers, John (Katherine) Langley of Flemington, NJ, and Robert (Ellen) Langley of Pittsburgh, PA, along with their families.

Bill was born in West Harford, CT, on October 10, 1938, and moved with his parents several times as a young boy, living in Cleveland, OH, Buffalo, NY, and finally settling in Middle Haddam, CT. He enjoyed sharing that he was the only person he knew who had attended three first grades. He graduated in 1960 from Dartmouth College, where he majored in Psychology.

He began his long and distinguished career in banking at Hanover Bank in 1961. During the ensuing 35 years he advanced to the most senior levels of management. Widely respected throughout the industry, he played a leading role in the efforts to save some of the most iconic companies in the United States, including Chrysler and International Harvester, amongst many others. He retired from J.P. Morgan Chase in 1996, proud of the fact that, due to a series of mergers, he had managed to work for five different banks without ever “changing” jobs.

In keeping with his engaging nature, Bill had an active retirement. Together with his wife Pat, he travelled widely and volunteered at and supported several local charities. He dedicated tremendous amounts of time to FISH of Stamford, ensuring that people without transportation reached their medical appointments. Bill and Pat also passionately supported Kids in Crisis and the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an active member for over 56 years.

Later in life, Bill grew to love bocce and curling. He would gather with friends at the Ardsley Curling Club or Scalzi Park to enjoy a quick game, lunch, and good company. Bill was also an avid Mets and N.Y. Giants fan, loved reading history, and enjoyed occasional trips to battlefields.

Bill‘s greatest joy was, by far, being with his beloved family at the house he built in East Orleans, MA, spending as much time as possible on his deck overlooking the water, his favorite spot on earth.

He will forever be remembered for his booming laugh, his kind and gentle demeanor, and his selfless and generous nature.
